About this project:
This project involved a significant rear extension to a characterful detached property, with full planning permission secured to substantially increase the size of the kitchen and improve the connection between the house and its generous outdoor space.
The design makes a confident architectural statement — a flat roof section with a central lantern light sits alongside a pitched slate-effect roof, with bi-fold doors opening onto a large stone-paved terrace. A brise soleil constructed from Accoya wood adds a considered design detail, providing solar shading while giving the elevation a contemporary edge. Accoya is a modified timber known for its exceptional durability and dimensional stability — a practical as well as aesthetic choice.
The result is a well-considered extension that handles both the scale of the original house and the ambition of the brief.
